Public Perception of Lethal Autonomous Weapons (LAWs)

The challenge: acquiring the public perception around LAWS (or killer robots) internationally

Design TeamOpen Roboethics Institute (ORI)

Client: United Nations

Here is the summary report from the study in 2015.

The approach:

  1. Designed an online survey and translated to 14 languages
  2. Distributed the survey internationally via media outlets
  3. Analyzed the results and reported it at the United Nations Convention of Conventional Weapons

Key learning or insights: 67% of the participants thought that LAWs should be banned internationally and 85% thought that they should not be used for offensive purposes

The impact of findings: The findings informed the appropriate United Nations groups of the public perception on a global scale.

My specific role: I was involved with the translation of the survey, data analysis and report writing for this project.
